BENEFICIAL EFFECT OF FLUOTHANE FOR OBSTETRICAL ANESTHESIA

Abstract
Fluothane that possesses a rapid induction and recovery, pleasant onset of action, minim. stimulation of tracheal mucous secretions, scant tendency to induce nausea and vomiting, with n specific complications, is useful in obstetrical anesthesia. In view of fetal status and postpartum uterine contractibility under fluothane anesthesia: significant depression in uterine tone is occurred, although infants fared well. The important factor in preventing abnormal uterine relaxation and associated postpartum bleeding ;is to avoid high concentrations of fluothane. In practice, fluothane concentrations could be reduced to u! mixed gas with nitrous oxide. The unexpected mechanisms that fluothane inhibited uterine activity were discussed on the bas( of neurohumoral and sex steroid theory. The final status of fluothane for obstetrical anesthesia is safe and useful as other inhalant and indicated if undergoing lower concentration of fluothane with nitrous oxide.
